United States - North Carolina - Sanford United States - Missouri - St. Louis - Chesterfield United States - New York - New York City United States - Massachusetts - Cambridge Coordinates implementation of the global biosafety program. Provides technical capability to evaluate the biosafety risk profile (associated with internal operations and external sourcing) and works with direct team and site biosafety organization to develop risk management programs. Contributes to R&D EHS program development (with focus on laboratory and biological safety) to ensure EHS risks are appropriately managed and compliance is maintained. Role Responsibilities Contributes to the advancement of biosafety and R&D EHS team priorities through program development in areas of technical competency, including biosafety and laboratory safety Coordinates the global biosafety network; maintains appropriate network membership, coordinates/manages a regular meeting cadence, drives network objectives, and maintains contemporary records Maintains the Biological Safety Standard; develops/maintains supporting documented management systems and tools to support implementation-- Provides EHS support and training within areas of technical competency (e.g., biosafety, laboratory safety) Provides technical support to facilitate implementation and management of biological and laboratory safety risks Establishes productive working relationships with EHS and R&D stakeholders to enable evaluation of the impact of business change on EHS risk profiles Establishes and maintains effective and productive relationships with R&D sourcing teams to ensure R&D biotherapeutics external supplier evaluation priorities are addressed-- Conducts remote and onsite reviews of R&D biotherapeutics suppliers; provides timely communications to key stakeholders on the outcomes of the reviews; and drives resulting action plans to closure Collaborates with R&D EHS team colleagues to establish assessment tools, e.g., Site / Line Operating Risk Model to characterize EHS risks associated with R&D operations and enable prioritization of program development / risks management actions-- Promotes organizational learning through evaluation of root causation related to incident investigations within areas of technical competency, and driving actions to address key learnings Participates as a team member in the internal EHS audit program, when needed QUALIFICATIONS Must-Have Bachelor's degree in biological sciences, bio-engineering or equivalent discipline required.-- Active membership--in a relevant professional body (e.g., American Biosafety Safety Association), ideally with a formal continuous professional development requirement.-- A minimum of 5 years relevant industry experience gained within a large academic institution, pharmaceutical R&D or biotechnology setting, with at least 2 years experience in a global / multi-site biological safety role Nice-to-Have Has attained or actively working towards a formal professional certification, ABSA Registered Biological Safety Professional desirable Organizational Relationships Reports directly to the Occupational Toxicology and R&D EHS Lead Collaborates with members of the Global EHS team on group objectives and program development priorities; this may require accountability to other line leaders Collaborates with other risk management organizations, e.g., Environmental Law Group, Occupational Health & Wellness, and Global Workplace Solutions Collaborates with globally deployed site EHS colleagues and operational teams to drive risk evaluation and risk mitigation efforts; both independently contributing and collectively delivering work product through leadership / contribution to working groups / networks Communicates and interacts with business line colleagues Represents Pfizer in appropriate external groups, e.g., Pharmaceutical Biosafety Group; Pharmaceutical Safety Group - Biosafety / Laboratory Special Interest Topics RESOURCES MANAGED Although not directly accountable for budget management, the position influences biosafety / laboratory control strategies--which could lead to efficiency improvement in addition to strategically influencing capital spend / allocation Supervision Coordination of technical teams in field of expertise (e.g., coordination of the biosafety network) Position may manage contracted resources / summer students to support program development / execution as needed Physical/Mental Requirements Due to the nature of work assignments, candidates must be able to perform detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks, with frequent interruptions and under time constraints.-- Position responsibilities require mobility including ability to sit, stand, to walk for extended periods of time; to climb stairs; to lift and carry objects weighing up to 15 pounds. The job requirements will require manual dexterity to operate a computer and other office equipment; ability to hear and verbally exchange ideas and information with colleagues and others on the phone and in the office.
