National Director of Dietary Services At Five Star Senior Living Apply Now Location Information Five Star Senior Living's corporate headquarters are located in Newton, Massachusetts. Just 20 minutes outside of downtown Boston, the building features easy access to public transportation and the Massachusetts Turnpike.

Key Responsibilities Summary:

The National Director of Dining Services is responsible for overseeing food service operations of Five Star Senior Living owned and managed communities and collaborating with the Vice President of Resident Experience to develop and execute the Food and Dining strategic initiatives for all Dining Departments. This will include, but is not limited to, managing and leading a team of employees (incl. Regional Dining Services Directors) , responsibility for managing client relationships, resident satisfaction, and talent development. This role will require close collaboration with other team members within the Operations Department, DVP’s, RDO’s and ED’s in developing budgets and capital and operating expense plans related to initiatives. With oversight of multiple, geographically distributed teams, assets and projects, the ability to travel routinely is expected.

Responsibilities:

Oversee execution of tools, standards, programs, and resources to ensure consistency in your dining programs and in achieving success.

Collaborate with DVP’s, RDO’s and Community Staff to execute the Food and Dining strategic initiatives, plan menus, oversee food preparation standards, and provide an exceptional resident experience.

Execute and communicate operating budget; perform reasonable predictive forecasting of expected meal services based on resident, family, team member and/or other applicable headcounts.

Develop the food safety and service standards for all Five Star Dining, and ensure and maintains the processes and standards for safety and cleanliness of all food preparation, service, and work areas, tools, and facilities. Deliver communication of latest regulatory findings in food service along with updating community level teams of changes to standards.

Work closely with Five Star’s Procurement Team to oversee the relationship management of food and equipment vendors and adhere to the guidelines and strategy for a full implementation of SmartSpend for all Five Star communities.

Collaborate with the Learning and Development Team to develop and deliver training to location food service and administrative staff in all areas of food and dining operations such as: Sanitation, Food Safety and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points.

Food cost and labor cost control.

Menus, meal service and plate presentation.

General Nutrition and special diets.

Hospitality, customer service and overall resident experience.

Develop standardized training in and orientation program for food and beverage directors.

Monitor and audit communities for Five Star Standards of Food and Dining Services; working with Regional Directors of Dining, develop a follow up plan with community management to address areas that need further focus.

Assist with program/systems development and implementation.

Update and communicate regarding dining for communities, in a timely manner, verbally and through written reports.

Identify any significant operation trends which need to be addressed.

Make recommendations for improved performance and follows up to assure compliance.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

Hospitality background highly preferred.

Experience in large scale food service environment.

Certification as a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN), Nutrition and Dietetics Technician, Registered (NDTR), or similar credentials preferred.

Demonstrated skills in Food and Dining operations and training and/or managing a food service program.

Excellent leadership skills with proven ability to motivate, direct, and develop team members to be efficient and effective.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to prioritize and delegate multiple tasks and projects to ensure each is completed correctly and in a timely manner.

Self-motivated, detail-oriented, well-organized, and results-driven professional.

Ability to excel in a fast-paced, team-centered and results-driven environment.

Positive, creative, innovative approach to problem solving and the ability to exercise judgment and discretion.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Hospitality, or related field required.

Foodservice operational management experience with inventory and purchasing knowledge and control required.

Combined 10+ years in the field of Food and Dining, Hospitality and Operations preferred.

Strong knowledge of food and catering trends with a focus on quality, production, sanitation, food cost controls, and presentation.

Knowledge of P&L accountability and contract-managed service experience is desirable.

ServSafe® certified a plus.

Physical Demands:
