Job Description Summary
Please only apply if you have DIRECT experience setting up and
managing a Shared Service Center. The Vice President Finance Shared
Services is responsible for the administration of the Sonesta
Shared Services Center and the Finance Shared Services functions of
financial reporting, general accounting, tax, accounts payable,
accounts receivable, and payroll in support of Sonesta’s 160
managed hotels in the United States. The role will have oversight
of approximately 75 employees and contractors with direct reports
including: Controller – General Accounting, Controller – Tax,
Director Payroll, Assistant Controller – Accounts Payable, and
Accounts Receivable Manager. Job Description
Direct and manage the Sonesta Finance Shared Services to ensure
the Company complies with financial management and reporting
requirements under the hotel management agreements.
Administer and manage the Sonesta Shared Service Center to
ensure continuity of services including facilities management,
utilities, licensing, and lease management.
Manage vendor relationships for third-party outsourced
accounting related services and information systems.
Responsible for delivery of comprehensive periodic reports of
the financial results of the company’s managed hotels in
established corporate formats, in accordance with generally
accepted accounting principles, and within agreed upon
Prepare regular forecasts and annual operational and capital
budgets as required and to report on any material deviations or
non-compliance to the approved budget to the Executive Vice
President of Operations and/or their designee.
Coordinate preparation of the hotel operating budgets and
capital expenditure plans for designated hotels. Ensures that
revisions to budgets and plans discussed during budget review
meetings are incorporated into the final versions submitted for
Corporate and Owner approval.
Maintain a comprehensive contract and license/permit compliance
calendar incorporating the deadlines in each of the hotel
management contracts and ensures that the deadlines are met.
Supports Regional Vice-President in review of regional hotels
Coordinate and collaborate with the Director of Internal Audit
to perform detailed reviews or internal audits of managed hotels
and prepare comprehensive action plans to correct deficiencies
cited following discussion with hotel management.
Establish and maintain financial professional training and
development processes and succession planning.
Maintain an effective relationship with ownership
representatives and asset managers through regular communications
and follow up with information requests.
Strategy and Planning
Evaluate and advise on the impact of long-range planning,
introduction of new programs/strategies and regulatory impact.
Collaborate with Operations and other company discipline teams
to development and implement finance policies and procedures that
support the company’s global strategies and programs.
Develop and promote a culture of continuous process improvement
Establish, monitor, and report on performance to agreed upon
Service Level Agreements with organizational stakeholders. Manage
team performance against relevant SLA metrics to achieve and
maintain SLA goals.
Actively engages in developing personal professional
competencies to maintain awareness of changes in accounting
regulations and laws, financial reporting, tax, and payroll

Leads and directly manages the Sonesta Shared Services Finance
Team. This includes attract, retain and development of talent.
Responsible for performance reviews and effective performance
management of the team.
Conduct department and business unit meetings to ensure a smooth
running and compliant payroll function at Sonesta.

sound leadership and management principles to promote a strong
culture of teamwork.
Ensure team members receive proper training applicable to their

Qualifications and Skills:
A candidate for this position must possess the following
applicable knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to
demonstrate and provide applicable examples to support his/her
15+ years as hospitality financial leader with a minimum of 5
years in leading centralized property accounting and finance
Must be able to maintain good relationships with all departments
in the hotel, corporate and owners to promote effective internal
control and financial advisory role.
Must have the ability to communicate and the commitment to
follow all local and corporate policies and procedures.
Demonstrable ability to organize and manage multifaceted
projects across various information systems, processes, and
departments. Ability to appropriately delegate project tasks and
responsibilities to team members and monitor project progress
against established schedules and timelines.
Must have extensive knowledge of hotel accounting functions
including: The Uniform Chart of Accounts for the Lodging Industry,
General Accounting, Capital Expenditures, Accounts Payable,
Accounts Receivable, and Payroll.
Must have a high degree of professional integrity, and be able
to work safe, effectively and efficiently.
B.S. in Hotel Administration and/or Business
Administration/Accounting. A current CPA license holder or
possessing a Master’s degree in Business, Finance, or Accounting
and a current is highly desirable.
Possesses a strong background in managing integrated financial
accounting and reporting systems. Experience with financial system
interfaces is critical to success.
Knowledge of hotel accounting and other systems (i.e. OPERA,
Micros, SpaSoft, etc.) and general business systems (i.e. Microsoft
Office and Outlook, financial reporting, etc.)
